One man dead, another hurt in Shawnee casino shooting
SHAWNEE — One man died and another man was wounded in a shooting Tuesday involving two employees at a Shawnee casino, authorities said.
The shooting happened just before 7 a.m. at the Grand Casino Hotel Resort, 777 Grand Casino Blvd., which is under the jurisdiction of Citizen Potawatomi Nation Tribal police.
Matthew Palmer, 22, was shot and killed, and Justin Wells, 28, was taken to a local hospital, said Jennifer Bell, spokeswoman for the tribe. Wells's medical condition was not released Tuesday afternoon.
Bell said the two employees were the only people involved in the incident, which took place in an area of the casino not open to the public.
No other employees or guests were injured.
The FBI is leading the investigation with support from casino security and tribal police. No motive for the shooting was released.
