Sapulpa police lieutenant killed in Midwest City motel
MIDWEST CITY — An off-duty Sapulpa police lieutenant and his cousin were found dead in a motel Saturday night, and warrants have been issued for the suspected killers.
About 10 p.m., Lt. Trey Pritchard and his cousin, Jeffrey Grafton, were found dead by staff at the Traveler's Inn, 6821 SE 29, Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said. Both men were 46 years old and from Sapulpa.
The motel room where the slain men were found had been rented earlier that day by Jeffrey Grafton's son, Jonathan Grafton, 22. He and his girlfriend, Daphne Mason, 21, have Oklahoma County arrests warrants for first-degree murder, Clabes said.
The arrest warrants were not available Sunday, and police did not say how the men were apparently killed.
Investigators learned that Pritchard and Jeffrey Grafton left Sapulpa and tracked Jeffrey Grafton's 2000 Dodge pickup to the motel using GPS.
Jonathan Grafton apparently had taken the pickup, and the men went to retrieve it. Jeffrey Grafton went into the room first, and Pritchard followed him when he did not return, Clabes said.
Jeffrey Grafton's pickup was found Sunday in the 3600 block of Sara Road in western Oklahoma City, Clabes said.
"I understand that Lieutenant Pritchard was a very fine officer. Our condolences go out to his family and to the Sapulpa Police Department," Clabes said.
In June, Jonathan Grafton pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia in Creek County, court records show. He was given a 5-year deferred sentence.
Jonathan Grafton and Mason are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about them is asked to call Midwest City police at 739-1306.
