Oklahoma State football: Mike Gundy says Cowboys need maturity, strength

Oklahoma State fell to 5-5 on the season and 3-4 in Big 12 Conference play after Saturday’s 28-7 home loss to Texas.

Here’s a look at what players and coaches had to say after the game.

OSU coach Mike Gundy on the offensive struggles: “We tried to move the ball around with some different formations, but they were able to contain us. When that happens, it’s kind of hard to explain, you go from one extreme to the other, and we need some maturity. We need some strength and we need some guys to grow up front. When we get a little help there, it’ll make us a better football team.”

OSU tight end Blake Jarwin on the loss: “We’ve just got to keep our heads up and look forward to next week. We’ve got to watch the film. I think we did a lot of good things and a lot of bad things. We’ve just got to keep our heads up and keep moving forward.”

OSU safety Tre Flowers on the defensive intensity in the second half: “Everybody just knows that they have to play their part. We’ve always felt like we have to spark the offense so that’s what we tried to do.”

Texas coach Charlie Strong on the victory: “It was a great team win. I challenged our players in the week and said we have two games left and we need to get to a bowl game. We owe it to ourselves and to our seniors for the leadership that they’ve provided the past few weeks.”

Texas offensive coordinator Shawn Watson on quarterback Tyrone Swoopes’ performance: “(He) played exceptional tonight. He did a lot of good things and handled a lot of things well at the line of scrimmage. He had good protection and made several good throws throughout the evening.”

Texas cornerback Quandre Diggs on becoming bowl eligible: “It means a lot. Getting through another month with my teammates is the most important thing and getting the opportunity to play with these guys again. It’ll be fun. We did what we wanted to do tonight and we played the way we wanted. It feels good to be bowl eligible.”
