A candlelight vigil was held Sunday night for Robin Leander Howard, a man who died last summer after a confrontation with Oklahoma City police.

About 60 people attended the vigil, including relatives of Howard. It was held in the 1400 block of Monticello Court, the location where a brief car chase with police ended.

Howard, 54, died June 19, four days after his arrest.

The vigil was hopeful, coming days after it was revealed that the FBI will be investigating whether Howard's civil rights were breached while he was in police custody.

Calls for justice in Howard's death were interspersed with prayers and gospel songs during the half-hour vigil.

“A lot of people came, so it really made me feel really good,” Kimberly Turner, Howard's sister, said.

“It's been hard. It's been really hard, because I mean, you still really don't get to grieve,” she said.

“There's still a lot of answers that we don't know,” Turner said.

The family's attorney, David Slane, said the Rev. Jesse Jackson sent a personal message to the family last week, and may be making an appearance in Oklahoma City this week on their behalf.
