Del City child dies, mother's boyfriend arrested on murder complaint
DEL CITY — A 22-month-old girl died of injuries consistent with child abuse and the mother's boyfriend has been jailed on a murder complaint, authorities said.
About 11:15 a.m. Monday, Roderick Lamont Jackson, 34, called 911 and reported the unresponsive child at 4812 Kristie Drive. When first responders arrived, they suspected child abuse and called police, Del City police Capt. Jody Suit said.
Nkya Cargile was taken to The Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center where she died about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Suit said.
Jackson was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on a complaint of felony child abuse, but that has been amended to a murder complaint, he said.
A 4-year-old boy in the home was also taken into protective custody until the investigation is completed. The child's mother is not currently a suspect, Suit said.
Jackson has a criminal history in Oklahoma County dating to the mid-90s, court records show.
He pleaded guilty to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in 1996. Jackson also pleaded guilty in 2003 to assault with a dangerous weapon and domestic abuse and was given a 10-year suspended sentence. In 2006, he pleaded guilty to a count of domestic abuse resulting in great bodily injury and received a seven-year sentence, but was released last June, according to corrections records.
