Winter storm warning issued for Thursday in Oklahoma

Dry and mild weather is expected to continue today, but a strong cold front and storm system arriving in Oklahoma on Thursday will change all that and leave up to 10 inches of snow in west central and north central Oklahoma, according to the National Weather Service.

The winter storm system will produce a mixture of heavy rain, ice, sleet, and snow across most of the state, with most of the precipitation occurring Thursday, amid windy and colder conditions.

Forecasters said the farther north in Oklahoma, the greater the chance for snow, and the farther south the greater chance for cold rain and ice.

In central Oklahoma, that leaves a mixture of rain, ice, sleet, and snow, the weather service said.

Ice accumulation of one-fourth to one-half inch will be possible across portions of southwest and central Oklahoma along with snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 4 inches.

Today, skies should be sunny with temperatures ranging from the 40s in northeastern Oklahoma to the 50s and 60s elsewhere. Lows are expected to reach the 20s and 30s.
